Our team

Salvos Counselling is made up of a passionate, professional and caring team of counsellors and/or psychologists who are listed below in alphabetic order by surname.


ELAINE CARY holds a Bachelor of Counselling and is registered with the Psychotherapy & Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA). She is based out of  Salvos Counselling Macquarie Park. Elaine has worked with young adolescents for 11 years in the school system. Her skill set supports her work with individuals, couples, families and children over 11 years old.

WARREN DRANEY has a Masters in Counselling, a Graduate Diploma in Supervision, a Degree in Theology and a Diploma in Ministry. He is the training coordinator for Salvos Counselling Professional Services, a Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Pastoral Supervisor.  He runs our Trauma Informed Care and Wellbeing in the Workplace programs. His extensive experience in assisting long term unemployed jobseekers ensures that Job Services Providers obtain greater value for money in their quest to transition unemployed job seekers into sustainable employment.   Warren also works with individuals who struggle with numerous issues in the Sydney office of Salvos Counselling. 

SHELLEY FAIRGRIEVE holds a Master of Counselling and is based at Salvos Counselling Penrith.  She is a generalist counsellor and works with individuals and couples. Her background is administration and case work.  She is a graduate member of Christian Counsellors Association of Australia.

ALICIA FALZON has been with The Salvation Army for 6 years in the capacity of Counsellor, Family Therapist, Supervisor and Group Facilitator at our Brisbane ( Upper Mt Gravatt) office. She is an experienced Counsellor who enjoys helping people and families to gain a better understanding of themselves, their problems and anxieties associated with their everyday life. Alicia has experience and comprehensive training in the following areas which enable her to be understanding and compassionate to a wide range of client circumstances and needs. Alicia holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, a Master of Counselling, a Master of Mental Health with Family Therapy,  an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Bowen Family Systems Theory and Practice and a  Supervision Certificate from the Supervision Hub. Alicia is a clinical member of Psychotherapy & Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), a clinical member of Queensland Counsellors Association (QCA) and an affiliate member of the Australian Association of Family Therapy (AAFT). 

KIM KOWNACKI has worked at Salvos Counselling for over 5 years. She obtained an Graduate Diploma in Christian Counselling from MorlingCollege and has recently completed a Masters in Counselling. She has been counselling for 10 years, coming to counselling from a nursing backgound. She has experience working with people with addictions, mental health issues, homelessness, long term unemployment, grief, depression and anxiety, childhood trauma, and those with relationship issues. She has been a facilitator for group programmes in self-worth and for adult survivors of child abuse. She is a member of the Counsellors and Psychotherapists Association. 

LIZ MAUDE has over 27 years in the counselling industry and works as an individual and relationship counsellor. Liz has a Bachelor of Counselling (UNE), is a Master Clinician with Australian Association of Relationship Counsellors and registered with Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia. Liz also provides clinical supervision and clinical consultancy, has a Grad. Certificate in Professional Supervision (University of Canberra), an Advanced Certificate in Supervision (UK) and registered as a Clinical Supervisor with Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia. She also holds a Cert IV in Workplace Training and Assessment and has taught counselling at TAFE and has provided training in counselling and supervision. Liz has managed Community Services programs and counselling teams, she is currently the manager of Salvos Counselling Penrith.

PAM NEALE-JUSTINS has over 30 years  experience as an individual and relationship counsellor. She is the senior counsellor and supervisor at Salvos Counselling at Penrith. Pam is a registered counsellor and supervisor with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia. Pam was part of the team that wrote the original Diploma and Advanced Diplomas in Pastoral Counselling which have been provided by the Salvation Army. Pam was also the founding vice-president of the Christian Counsellors Association of Australia ( NSW Branch). 

SKYE MARONEY holds a Bachelor of Psychological Science and a Master of Counselling. As a generalist counsellor Skye works with individuals and couples with a particular focus on carers . She has strong experience supporting people with disabilities, carers and support workers. Skye’s skill set and experience are also valuable when she is working with young adults.Skye works from our Brisbane office.

NERIDA OBERG is a Psychotherapist and Family Therapist who has specialised in couples therapy, child focused play, art ,clay and sand therapy and bereavement care.  She holds a Bachelor of Counselling, Diploma in the Artistry of Psychotherapy, Diploma in Professional Counselling, Specialist skills training in couples and family, Cert IV in Assessment and Workplace Training, Certificate in Executive Coaching, Certificate in Clinical Supervision and Cert IV in Community Development.  She has 25 years experience working in private practice and teaching at leading tertiary colleges in Sydney.  For the last 8 years Nerida has worked extensively developing and implementing an Aboriginal program in the Shoalhaven region for outreach Aboriginal communities.  

JENNIFER PERCHMAN has a Masters in Counselling and a Graduate Diploma in Counselling. In addition to this she has a Graduate Diploma in Psychology of Education and Special Educational Needs. Jenny also holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Higher Diploma in Education. Her skill set supports her work as a counsellor/psychotherapist and trainer at Salvos Counselling. Jenny's extensive experience in adult education training provides value and investment into our Professional Services programmes. Jenny's counselling work focuses on individuals, couples and families in the Sydney office of Salvos Counselling. 

KIM PETTERSON holds a Bachelor of Social Science (Counselling), is an accredited Supervisor and has completed training in Neuropsychotherapy. She works with individuals, couples and children and provides counselling with the Salvos Counselling Rural Initiative. Kim has a passion for supporting women and children who are experiencing or have endured the effects of domestic violence and has many years’ experience working with a State-wide domestic violence telephone service and other face to face domestic violence services. She has a training background and facilitates our Behaviour Change Management: Anger Management 4 week course as well as the Safe from the Start program. Kim is a member of Queensland Counsellors Association (QCA) and the International Association of Clinical Neuropsychotherapy (IACN). 

JONATHON RAY provides counselling for individuals, couples, and children, particularly for issues relating to trauma, mental health, and relationships from our Goodna & Brisbane offices. Jonathon has been counselling for 8 years, and has a background in youth welfare and child protection. Jonathon holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters of Counselling. He is a member with PACFA (Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia), QCA (Queensland Counsellors Association), and IACN (International Association of Clinical Neuropsychotherapy). Professionally, Jonathon has been developing his skills as a teacher and trainer and has been particularly interested in how the neurosciences can help people make sense of their experiences, develop practical solutions and find a deeper sense of joy and vitality. Outside of work, Jonathon has been enjoying finding new places to cycle, drink coffee and listen to live music (together or separately). 

MICHAEL SCHAEFER is a counsellor/psychotherapist with a background in pastoral care specialising in personal and professional development for individuals and groups within both community and corporate environments.  He is known for creating enriched training environments in which people grow and develop.His expertise includes working with complex trauma, emotional intelligence in the workplace, Vocational Educational Training (pastoral care), Higher Education (counselling and ministry at degree level and counselling at masters level), Clinical and Pastoral Supervision.Michael’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Theology, a Graduate Diploma in Theological Studies, a Graduate Diploma in Christian Counselling, a Masters in Christian Counselling and Cert IV’s in Business Management, Training and Assessment and Pastoral Care.Michael acknowledges the diverse elders of various traditions who have been formative in his growth. 

SUE STRIDE is a PACFA accredited counsellor with 19 years counselling experience. She has been with Salvos Counselling for 14 years, working at both the Penrith and Campbelltown Offices. Sue has trained with several counselling organisations and has a Bachelor in Applied Science (OT) from SydneyUniversity. Sue is married with four children and four grandchildren. Sue works with individuals, couples, families and children, and as a supervisor.

PAMELA THIEL-PAUL is an accredited and experienced clinical counsellor, clinical and professional supervisor, business manager, and program and team coordinator. She holds a Bachelor of Counselling Studies, COA Supervision, Diploma of Community Services (Alcohol and Drugs) and is a member of the Australian Counselling Association (ACA), the College of Clinical Counsellors and the College of Supervisors. Her experience spans more than 26 years working with individuals, couples, families, children and groups, providing counselling, coaching, supervision, therapeutic groups, team and business development and psychoeducational training. As Queensland Manager for Salvos Counselling Pamela works with her highly skilled, professional and caring team of counsellors to ensure the sunshine state receives access to evidence based relevant support through face-to-face, phone and on-line services.

MARGARET WELCH is an experienced and accredited clinician who is a clinical member and accredited supervisor with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and listed on the ARCAP Register. Margaret has a Masters of Counselling (UNE), a Diploma of Relationship Counselling and an Advanced Certificate of Supervision (UK). She has worked for Salvos Counselling for over 13 years. As a Senior Counsellor and Supervisor Margaret works with individuals, couples, families, children and adolescents across a wide range of presenting issues. Margaret also facilitates professional development workshops and lectures in a Masters of Counselling program in Sydney.

ROBYN WHITE has a passion for counselling which has developed from her Nursing background.   She has many years of experience working with people affected by trauma, childhood abuse, addictions, mental health issues, homelessness, long term unemployment, grief, depression/anxiety, and those with relationship concerns.  Her special interest is in complex trauma/abuse and the ongoing effects from this.  One of Robyn’s passions is to continue studying and working with an increasing understanding of the latest Neurobiological interventions which may impact her client’s wellbeing significantly.  Robyn is a clinical, registered counsellor with (CCAA), and (PACFA) Psychotherapy and Counsellors Federation of Australia and holds a Master of Counselling, Grad .Dip. of Counselling studies, Advanced Dip. of Relationship Counselling and a Diploma of Nursing.   Robyn also provides supervision as a registered supervisor with (CCAA) Christian Counsellors Association of Australia (Qld).
